Engage in a one of a kind study abroad experience through a special collaboration between MADE and Polimoda, focused on Fashion Design & Business. Build valuable skills through hands-on experience under the guidance of industry experts as you explore traditional craftsmanship in Sicily and contemporary fashion merchandising in Florence. 

MADE - SICILY  
Begin the semester with a hands-on workshop in Syracuse, Sicily, at MADE - a dynamic institution known for its focus on design for change as well as its emphasis on preserving the artistic traditions and creative cultures of the Mediterranean. Learn about artisanal craftsmanship, its value in contemporary fashion, and its role in sustainable and ethical design. Explore traditional Sicilian textile techniques, from the harvesting of raw materials to yarn production and the development of finished fabrics. Learn directly from expert artisans as you reinterpret traditional craftsmanship through a modern design perspective. 

POLIMODA - FLORENCE  
Spend the remainder of the term in Florence at one of the world’s leading fashion schools - Polimoda. Award-winning and known for its unparalleled industry connections, Polimoda teachers are prominent fashion professionals with extensive experience and expertise. Experience a cutting-edge approach to learning as you study fashion business, branding, design, and trend forecasting, all while developing your personal portfolio. Immerse yourself in Florence - one of the most important international centers of fashion production, and connect with innovative leaders in the industry through workshops, guest lectures, and hands-on projects. MADE WORKSHOP: 
Artisanal Fashion and Experimental Design: Far from Sight, Close to the Heart

Far from Sight, Close to the Heart is a workshop in Artisanal Fashion and Experimental Design that offers an in-depth exploration of craftsmanship through a hands-on approach, bridging heritage techniques with contemporary design. Rooted in Sicily’s rich textile traditions, the workshop guides students through an immersive process of material research, technical experimentation, and creative development. From the study of Sicilian cotton cultivation to embroidery and historical costume analysis, participants will engage with expert artisans, visit specialized workshops, and experiment with textile manipulation techniques. During the workshop, students will be guided through the design process of a personal creation, applying techniques learned from local artisans.

POLIMODA COURSE OFFERINGS: 

Fashion Business & Branding 
3 US credits 

This course offers an in-depth exploration of the business and branding strategies crucial to the fashion industry. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of how to create, manage, and sustain a successful fashion brand. The course combines theoretical frameworks with practical applications, focusing on the development of strategic thinking and creative problem-solving.

Fashion Design
3 US credits 

Students will dive into the world of fashion through a deep analysis of a brand / designer, one of their collections, and the inspiration behind it. Students will create their own visual proposals and mood boards to redefine the creative direction of the brand. 

Graphics & Portfolio
3 US credits 

This course offers a comprehensive journey through the essential tools and techniques of Adobe Photoshop and InDesign, as well as personal branding and portfolio development. Students will gain hands-on experience in photo editing, digital collage creation, and layout design while building a strong visual identity. 

Aesthetics & Trend Forecasting
3 US credits

The Aesthetics and Trend Forecasting course provides a dual focus on understanding aesthetic principles and developing trend forecasting skills, equipping students with a well-rounded approach to interpreting and influencing visual culture. Through case studies, research methods, and creative exercises, students will learn to bridge their aesthetic vision with practical trend insights.

Contemporary Fashion
3 US credits 

The course aims to provide students with a thorough knowledge of the history of shapes, patterns and volumes (two-dimensional and three-dimensional) through the various historical decades of xx and xxi and in the various social environments, including examination of textiles, fabrics and colors to be considered the foundations of the socio-cultural world and anthropological reference.

HOUSING 

Sicily

Students are provided safe, clean, and comfortable shared apartments, located within the center of Siracusa.

All apartments are within walking distance of MADE.   

All apartments are fully furnished and include bedding, linens, and towels.  

All apartments are also equipped with WiFi and students will have access to a washing machine and a drying rack.   

Florence

Students are provided safe, clean, and comfortable shared apartments, within the Florence metropolitan area. 

The Polimoda campus is accessible from all apartments by foot or a quick commute via public transportation 

All apartments are equipped with WiFi and supplied with a washing machine, basic kitchen supplies, bed linens and towels 

Apartments in Florence typically have shared occupancy bedrooms (double or triple) with an average of 2-8 students per unit.
