Research

The Mediterranean basin is home to countless opportunities for research.

Sicily is an ideal setting for field studies and MADE has an extensive local network across the island. Opportunities for research range from exploring Mount Etna with an expert volcanologist to exploring human rights in Sicily with a local NGO leader. MADE welcomes students and faculty of all academic background to explore research opportunities in Sicily.

MADE Semester Program - Mediterranean Studies Research Project:

All MADE semester study abroad students complete a Mediterranean Studies Research Project. This allows students to develop research skills while pursuing one of their passions. With a foundation of research methodologies, each student sets out to explore their individual academic and career interests, supplemented by Sicily’s unique attributes and resources. With the support of industry experts, such as a local NGO leader, small business owner, volcanologist, designer, or artisan, students gain valuable professional competencies, such as critical thinking, leadership, and communication. By the end of the term, each student will have completed a final project or product, giving them a tangible takeaway from their high impact learning experience.
